World Changers Controversy?

I’m going to climb on my soapbox for this one…

I’m skeptical of most mega church ministers and think Creflo is more questionable than average, but I agree with Creflo on this one.

It’s not appropriate for congressmen to randomly summon people (that have not been convicted of any crimes) to provide information outside of what the law requires.  If there are concerns about church finances, then the IRS is the proper entity with authority to investigate.  And if the laws are insufficient for the IRS to investigate or they are overburdened as Grassley stated in an interview, then congress should write new legislation or unburden the IRS by simplifying the tax code!  Otherwise, we’ll have congressmen going on witch hunts every election cycle to get some free press and distract voters from their lack of progress on any issues of substance.  We have a process for a reason.  Remember McCarthy?

Frankly, I don’t care if every church minister in the country pimps their church as a tax shelter to fund a lavish life tax free.  I don’t care because whatever tax dollars we lose in a year from all these churches combined doesn’t approach the amount we are ripped off to fund a single day in Iraq.  The jets, mansions and rolls royces are not a secret to the parishioners who voluntarily donate to the churches.  If they have a problem with it, they can stop giving at anytime.

What I do care about are the dollars that are involuntarily taken from my check under the disguise of social security and medicare.  It’s no secret that these dollars are being used to fund jets, palaces, and hummers in Iraq, and I’ll likely never see a dime of social security.  The senator has a lot of nerve to talk about misuse of funds.  My advice to Grassley: don’t hate: participate.  The ministers have figured out that if you give the people what they want, they will voluntarily give you the world.  If Grassley would do his job and resolve the social security, healthcare, and education crisis in this country, even I would make a voluntary “love offering” to fund a jet, mansion and rolls for him tax free.  Ooops!  My bad, the lobbyist have already beaten me to that trick!  Maybe Grassley is participating, and this is just a case of game recognizing game.  Let’s not fall for the okie doke.

I’m climbing off my soapbox now.  Thanks for your indulgence.  Thoughts?
