Today in Nazca

I just sat down after a fun/heat-filled day viewing the Nazca Lines from the tower at the side of the Pan-American Hwy.

We visited the Museo de Maria Reiche which comemorated the foremost scholar that has written about the lines.  We had lunch at a nice diner where soup, salad, entree, and soda was served for approx. $9 total for four people.  Later tonight we will board a bus to take us to the city of Arequipa.  This is a long trip.  Our altitude will do nothing but climb from this point on.  The lowest point in our trip will be when we get back to Lima on the 21st.  We are at 600m above sea level now.  No big deal.

Last night while watching news we are probably one of the few Americans that witnessed the complete execution of the America we assume was in Iraq.  We watched the entire two or so minute tape that captured the last dying minutes of the man from Philadelphia.  I have never seen anything like that on TV before.  It shocked everyone in the room to witness the guy get his HEAD CUT COMPLETELY OFF!  I was and am still very shocked.  I’m not used to that much realism.  I{ve watched some of the “Faces of Death” series, but I could easily discount most of those as fakes.  The memory of this video remained with me during my waking moments as I slept last night.

Americans (at least my travelling party) are not used to the honesty shown during that news broadcast.  The newsman had to pause before he was able to continue his broadcast.  Since I’m not fluent in Spanish.  So, the best I could gather was that the man’s execution was retaliation for the abuse of the Iraqi POW’s that has been widely broadcast over the past few two weeks.

Sad and upset is how I went to bed last night.

I would have posted some pitures by now but there haven’t been any MAC computers anywhere I have seen.

Chat with you later,
