Today I start sharing some of my photos as a teenager with a camera.

I’ll start posting scans from negatives that I’ve owned for decades.  Some of these photos are scanned from negatives that I’ve had for more than 23 years.  It is very likely that some of these photos were taken 25 years ago.

Years ago, when I lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, I owned a Pentax ME Super 35mm camera image with the standard 50mm lens.  My Aunt Cheryl gave me most of the money to buy the camera and I cherished it.  I can’t begin to thank her enough for all of the joy that camera gave me.  I had that camera from 1980 through 1982 or so.  We were burglarized near the end of that span and the camera was stolen.  I didn’t own another camera until I bought one prior to my first trip to Jamaica in 1994.  These photos were all taken during that three year period and reflect my photographic interests at that time.

All of the photos in this self-imposed assignment was taken with that camera.  These pictures were all taken while I was in High School and probably a part of a school assignment.  I took a photography class in school and developed most of the black and white negatives in class.  Most of these images have never been seen outside of the contact sheet I printed shortly after developing the negatives.

You may notice that most of the photos have spots and scratches and other large imperfections.  This is what happens when you move multiple times and you don’t take care of your negatives properly.  I haven’t cropped, altered, edited, sharpened, or retouched any of the scanned photos, so everything you see is how it looked on my screen after the scanner finished processing it.  I have resized the photos to make viewing them easier on the site.

I knew most of the subjects in the pictures because I went to Caddo Parish Magnet High School with them.  Many are people I met while just carrying the camera.  It is amazing how many people want to be recorded in some stranger’s photograph collection.  Some of the people asked me to send them copies of the picture they were in.  So, if you are one of the people in the pictures and want a copy, just let me know.  I’ll make a high resolution copy available for a VERY affordable price.
