The movie adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984”

Forgive me in advance.  Sometimes I don’t know when to shut up.

I watched it last night.  I liked the movie, but as expected it was a bit disturbing how people just so readily accepted what the authority figure (Big Brother or BB) said was true.  I couldn’t help but to draw parallels with the War in Iraq.  Big Brother told the people that the citizens of Oceania were at war with East Asia and they believed it.  The Oceanese people believed that there was always a conflict between the two countries because it was so widely reported as being true.

So many people immediately believed President Bush when he claimed that Iraq was a threat to the USA because the “experts” said so.  Now we know that it was all a bunch of lies.  The President has carefully manipulated the information to make most people believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11.  It seems that more and more people are starting to understand that the President has designs on changing the regime in Iraq for reasons other than “The War on Terrorism” or “The Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism”.  Choose your preferred term carefully because one is PC and the other is just plain stupid.

Anyway, back to “1984” because the movie went so far as to show that BB would have no problem imprisoning a person because they thought differently than BB wanted them to think.  If you go so far as to question authority, not only will BB take your freedom, BB will take your mind from you too.  The Patriot Act has people thinking and saying, “If you’ve done nothing wrong, why are you worried?” I’m worried because this Act is making people afraid to speak their minds for fear of government retaliation.  Nevermind that our Constitution is supposed to allow a person the freedom to speak their own mind, but to remain free after speaking their mind.  That part isn’t important anymore because all it takes is to have one person pissed off at you to submit your name to authorities and you can be under surveillance for speaking freely.

I don’t care about the Constitution, because GOD gave me the right to speak, not a piece if paper in a hermetically sealed container in Washington, DC.

Does anyone feel safer now that Saddam Hussein is in jail?

That’s all.  I’m going back to sleep now.
