Snoop Dogg Smoking Marijuana

Snoop Dogg Smoking Marijuana
October 8, 2002

Snoop Dogg, platinum-selling rap artist and famed Dr. Dre collaborator, says he quit smoking marijuana in recent news reports. While we aren’t one to doubt Snoop Dogg’s pledge of no longer smoking marijuana, his recent news announcement against marijuana appears suspect to some conspiracy theory types. Is Snoop Dogg hiding his love for smoking marijuana due to publicity reasons? Did Snoop Dogg develop health complications related to smoking marijuana? All of these postulations are running wild in the rap world about Snoop Dogg, so we’ll dissect this marijuana smoking theory here, and you decide.

They reason that, first of all, Snoop Dogg has been a staunch proponent of smoking marijuana. In fact, Snoop Dogg was involved in many a marijuana possession drug bust and has been seen smoking marijuana in many of his rap videos. Snoop Dogg appeared rather frank about smoking marijuana to the point of not even caring. Secondly, unconfirmed rumors have circulated in the rap world that Snoop Dogg may have some form of cancer. An ailment certainly related to smoking marijuana, and it didn’t take a genius to connect the dots that smoking marijuana can lead to lung and throat cancer. However, Snoop Dogg told MTV News this week that the rumors of having cancer are completely false.

Despite the good news of Snoop Dogg not having cancer from smoking marijuana, there are two other curious elements of possible consideration with respect to his sudden, confusing announcement against smoking marijuana. A Los Angeles based Islamic group threatened to boycott The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) if they allowed the then pro marijuana smoking Snoop Dogg to appear on their Muppet’s movie special. Additionally, the powerful broadcast journalist, Bill O’Reilly, smoked Snoop Dogg recently on his show, The O’Reilly Factor, blatantly supporting the boycott against Snoop Dogg. Why? Because of Snoop Dogg’s well-established position as a person who smokes a ton of marijuana and raps about unflattering subject matter as it pertains to sexist remarks against women.

All of the negative press against Snoop Dogg and his marijuana smoking image painted NBC into an embarrassing corner. They immediately pulled Snoop Dogg’s scene from the Muppets movie. And then, about a week later, Snoop Dogg made the startling announcement that he is no longer smoking pot. Snoop Dogg told MTV News he has been smoking marijuana every single day for the past ten years, but cited the real reason he quit smoking marijuana was to start “feelin’ good,” and other healthful activities to keep Snoop Dogg above ground.

While Snoop Dogg and smoking marijuana may had gone as hand in hand as Nick Nolte and bad hair, there does not seem to be any merit to this conspiracy theory, whether it was a PR move or one where Snoop Dogg has cancer. The plain truth appears to be that Snoop Dogg quit smoking marijuana.
