PBS show chronicles the life and music of Godfather of Soul.

*James Brown is largely regarded as the
most influential black musician alive today.
Just ask the funk doctors and the hip-hoppers.
The musical revolution that he helped spark
will come alive in a new film celebrating his life from
childhood to music stardom.

“James Brown: Soul Survivor” will also document
his call for ‘black power,’ his controversial lifestyle and
his temporary, but devastating, fall from the spotlight
in the ‘70s. It’s all explored through interviews with
Brown and commentary by his closest friends,
fellow musicians and celebrities.
Chuck D, Al Sharpton, and Dan Aykroyd are
among those who shed light on the film’s original
performances and rare archival footage.
The PBS broadcast will coincide with Brown’s
70th birthday and his current sold-out concert tour.
The show will air on Wednesday, October 29.
