Isleys singer has minor stroke

So, Mr. Big almost had the big one.  Try though he might he still can’t beat Rick James’ headline.

Ronald Isley, lead singer with soul legends the Isley Brothers, has had a minor stroke after being taken ill in London, his record label has said.

Isley, 63, felt unwell while walking in the capital on Friday last week, said a spokeswoman at Def Soul Classics.

He spent a few days in hospital and is now back home in St Louis, Missouri. He is expected to be back performing soon.

With brothers Rudolf and O’Kelly, Isley was a co-founder of the group, whose hits include This Old Heart Of Mine.

His spokeswoman said his speech did not appear to be affected, and he had assured the label he would be fine and wanted to get back on the road quickly.

The Isleys’ most recent album, Body Kiss, topped the US charts last year.

Ronald Isley worked with composer Burt Bacharach on an album featuring reworked versions of songs such as Alfie and Close to You.
