Giga Treat With Yahoo Mail Upgrade Virus Protection

Yahoo is biting Google.
Popular search engine Yahoo! is to pump up their free Yahoo webmail storage space to 1 GB starting from next month.

As the demands of web users have increased in this multimedia age, webmail providers have sort to up their storage limits to accommodate the sending of pictures and music through e-mail.

Yahoo, however, isn’t the first company to offer 1 GB of space. Google’s Gmail service has for some time offered the same storage level. Google is expected to roll their service out of beta within the next few months.

Yahoo is also beefing up the free Yahoo Mail service’s antivirus capabilities by allowing users to clean infected attachments, Garlinghouse says. This feature was previously only available to subscribers of Yahoo’s fee-based Web mail service, which is called Yahoo Mail Plus and costs $19.95 per year. Yahoo Mail Plus offers subscribers 2GB of inbox storage along with other features not available to free users.
