Back home

Well, we went to TN this past weekend.  We scheduled a “Gathering” since the family is so spread out.  I guess the NJ crew is the reason for the vast distance.

We got to TN early Friday morning and slept until about noon.  Saturday, the plan was for all of the men to gather at our familial gravesite and do some cleaning up.  At the gravesite, my grandfather’s older brother is buried.  He died in 1905.  He was less than a year old when he died.  The gravesite is in the middle of a grassland area.  The landowner uses the grasses to feed his collection of ungulates.  The trees and groundcover have turned the area into a wooded unkempt grove.

It was nice working in the cemetery alone, early in the morning with dew covering the clover.  I was alone until my cousin and his father showed up.  We worked until about noon when it got hot and humid.  I didn’t take any pictures because the site was too far up the hill and I had too few hands to carry anything else up the hill besides the saw, shovel, lopers, water and banana.  The walk up the hill was the most difficult part.  The high grass combined with the dew, and the hill steepness all conspired to slow my progress and increase my breathing.

I’ll add more later,
